But I can easily imagine this stuff being used to launch an interactive debugging session in the middle of your application through an "ajax" bridge and interface (see http://tryruby.hobix.com for an ajax interface example with IRB). In this case, __autoload() might break because of other dependencies. If this kind of things can't be done and will never be done and is not meant to be done, ever, then feel free to keep __autoload().
