Hey all, As much as I love being part of the pear group; and realizing I've done nothing overly strenuous during that time; do we want to put in a bit of focus this time around re finding candidates / establishing a bit of a plan for the year? IE: http://pear.php.net/group/ is a shade out of date. We definitely need to hold elections. I will run as a group member again. I'd like also to nominate cweiske, bbieber, till, helgi and avb. I'd be delighted to hear from others interested in running as well! :)
When I reflect back on the last 12/24 months; I think the most I've done is (1) cause havoc [oops!] (2) grant karma in a few places (3) hack away at pearweb/make a few comments on an "integrated pear proxy" blog post. With the untimely death of the pear blog; news from 12 months ago is the only other contribution I seem to have made. What are some quick wins we can achieve between now and June? I'm proposing we update out main website. I've sent a mail to pear-dev to that effect.
What else is going on in other areas of the PHP ecosystem that we should be reaching out to? (ie: symphony2's community is publishing great articles and code re dependency injection; while striking a balance between framework and components in their releases). Zend Framework 2.0 is advertising that they will componentize their framework and make the pieces individually installable via PEAR packages. This is great and we should be reaching out to them to assist. As far as I know, Symfony2 is continuing to use PEAR in their platform as well.
At PHPCon, one of the ZF guys working on componentizing didn't even know how about Pyrus, so we should definitely be promoting its use more.
What's really, really broken? (I should get off my behind and install a blogging platform on test.pear.php.net <http://test.pear.php.net> to replace blog.pear.php.net <http://blog.pear.php.net> for instance) I think the current contribution process is a bit broken. We've discussed numerous ways to make it better on list and in the PEAR Group but we've just got to go ahead and start making some changes. The recent proposal to allow packages to use github is a great step in the right direction IMO.
What does the community want to see in the next year? I'd love to see more external contributions, cleaned up documentation and more people helping work on Pyrus. There is some really low-hanging fruit in Pyrus and with it moved to github, anyone can contribute!
