Like i said i didn't work much with the pear tool. In my case the extension
dir is just a sub directory (extension/no-debug-non-zts-20010901) of the
'PHP_DIR'.

But how is pear going to distinguish a in-house, foreign (other websites
than pear/php) and pear packages?
But the only packages I've installed are only my own packages
to test them. And can i be right that the pear version that
http://pear.php.net/~cox/go-pear is delivering is
different from the one
that comes with php 4.1.2?? Last week i build a package with the pear from
4.1.2. and didn't complain. This week after running go-pear, pear was
complaining that <description>, <license> and <state> were missing and
didn't build the package.
Do i really have a f*ckup-ed distribution or is there a difference between
4.1.2 and go-pear?
BTW: My workstation didn't had a clean install since 1998 (Slackware 3.6),
now I'm running sl8, and a lot of packages were installed by hand. I hate
the fact that distributions are changing programs paths. I like the original
defaults ;-) Didn't reboot since 12 July 2000, a uptime of 648 days..
