I meant that getcwd() retuns null string when I executed PHP at command
line.
<?php
echo $_ENV['PWD'] . "\n";
echo getcwd() . "\n";
?>
yeilds
/usr/local/lib/php
.
Thus, I needed to modify the PEAR/Installer.php to make it work.
Is it a bug related to getcwd() or am I missing something?

What do you mean by "does not work"? Running this script under
FreeBSD:
<?php
echo $_ENV['PWD'] . "\n";
echo getcwd() . "\n";
?>
yields:
/home/jon/work
/var/www/work.domain.org
Note that /home/jon is a symlink to /var/www/work.domain.org. Perhaps
you are expecting them to be the same?
