dear stig
thanx for the lynx thing *g
well, i indeed used an old set of pear install scripts. so sorry for that.
inbetween i managed quite well to install some packages on windows.
unfortunately the distro on snaps.php.net had no pear included and i did not
check verify the pear directory to be overwritten. but now i have a new php4
checkout and some lines for some other windows-pear-install-newbies ;)

i also tried the lynx-installer:
1) executable name
C:\>lynx -source http://pear.php.net/go-pear | sh
...
Which filename do you want to use for the 'pear' executable?
[/cygdrive/c/php/php/bin/pear] : pear.in
...
[/cygdrive/c/php/php/lib/php] : /cygdrive/c/php/pear
... then i get finally:
*** *** ***
U php4/pear/tests/user.input
U php4/pear/tests/user2.input
done!

The 'pear' command has been successfully installed under pear.in
try it by typing 'pear.in' for help
C:\>

and the pear.bat will not be written. i then tried to give the full path to
pear.bat at the same location as the pear installation
(/cygdrive/c/php/pear.in). this worked. i copied the pear.bat windows
wrapper into c:\php and run pear.bat successfully.
could you add some command line info, that - at least for windows - one
should place the "executable" also somewhere within the include_path? at
least this worked for me, as you see above.
thanx, urs
