Well, what does the PEAR::DB class do that the php native
db functions don't do ? Database abstraction. The PHPLib session class
could provide something that we could call 'session abstraction'.
To set up a session you should do a lot more then simply call
session_start(), shouldn't you? You have to set proper values in the
php.ini (that may be unavailable under certain circumstances), or call
several other session-related functions setting up session name,
session id, cache restrictions, session lifetime, etc. Why don't have a
session class that could do session setup regardless of the
php.ini settings (if it's not forbidden by tha server administrator)?
What if trans_sid is disabled? What if you need custom storage for
session variables (that phplib provides for years)?
Which is better, in the end:
session_name('My_Session');
session_set_cookie_params('bla-bla ...');
session_cache_limiter('bla-bla ...');
session_set_save_handler('bla-bla ...');
bla-bla ....;
session_start();
...
or
$sess = new Session;
$sess->start();
??
Do you still think that the Session class in PEAR is useless?
