Hello Chuck, On 05-Jan-01 23:17:01, you wrote: >> >Please don't use this site as the only reference for publically >> >> If you read the original message again you can see that I said "Uploading >> classes to this site would never stop you from uploading anywhere else you >> want". >And if you read his sentence, you would see that he was simply encouraging >people to do just that and upload elsewhere. He didn't say "don't put your >code on phpclasses". No, he was putting down the PHP Classes site and discouraging people to upload there just because it requires login to download classes. >> In PEAR repository it is assumed that there is only one way to do >> something right. No, the way I see that it works is that they start packages from scratch eventually immitating features of similar packages that exist for a much longer time (and therefore are much more mature) instead of inviting other developers to contribute. This sounds like: "We can do what you do and don't need your participation, but we will borrow the features of your software." and "If you want to participate you have to beg in public and may be we'll think about." This is terribly said posture, but that's exactly the way it is. What I did is to invite somebody willing to contribute to PEAR to contribute as well to the PHP Classes repository and I was bashed for doing so as if I am representing some sort of threat to the evolution of PEAR.
