Hello,

I suggest you apply for an CVS account. As I said, I like the

I do have a CVS account for quite some time but as you may be aware I have no time to dedicate more. Actually, coming here and take the time to share my experience and post my suggestions is already something that I do sacrifying time that I would need to dedicate to things that have priority because those are what assures the income to support my family like most people.
Anyway, I believe that what is necessary already exists and just needs to be reactivated because in the past the bug tracking application has a page for statistics that can be used for this.
Now, it just takes the time for somebody to look into this, not necessarily me or you, maybe somebody that is already volunteering time to fix bugs.

Manuel Lemos

The question is are all bug packs that were requested fixed? Of course not. The problem is always the same. This is voluntary work. People can only give the time they have now. Soon or later they will have other prioritary things in their lives and all the people that you see today coming back most likely will not be as available while the bug count never stops growing. What I suggested is to motivate more people to come by provided public recognition instead of remainining basically anonymous which is almost what they get today. People would still come and go, but showing the ranking in a public page would tease new bug fixers to keep coming and become recognized too. I am not just guessing that this would work. I am sure it works as it has been working for years in the PHP Classes site (Sorry Sterling, I can only share the experience I have). As you know, in this page you can see all sorts of rankings that recognize the contributions that the users made to the site. http://www.phpclasses.org/browse.html/top/top.html It provides recognition not only to the users that contributed to the site with their own classes (now near 300) but also users that brought new subscribers to the site in an initiative that is called Friends of the PHP Classes site. http://www.phpclasses.org/friends.html I have more initiatives to provide recognition to mirror sites, user groups, partner sites, training companies, consulting companies, etc., but the principle is the same, exhibit their names publically for something that they have done to contribute to the increase of the site audience. This atitude of the site is what I call Fair Exchange. It provides something to get something in return. It also tends to reward more those that provide greater return to the site. By this time already figured that you guys have fallen yourselves into the trap of rejecting all ideas of Manuel Lemos. I admit that somehow I expected that. I do not expect you to reckon that this is a good idea that could boost the number of contributors that help fixing PHP bugs much faster, so I do not expect you to implement anything like I suggested, despite it already existed a long time ago. So, do not bother with any excuses for not doing it because it is clear that the single point you will not do it is because Manuel Lemos suggested. Maybe some day you grow up and change your attitude towards myself reckoning that I am only making these suggestions because I think they can provide a better future for PHP. -- Regards, Manuel Lemos -- PHP Quality Assurance Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.phpActually nothing stops you to make it daily bug hunt. The issue is why splitting in bug packs will make people spend more time fixing bugs than before? Basically, the compensation for fixing any bugs is the same, so I don't see many new bug fixers coming. This is why I suggested the bug fixers ranking. Actually it used to exist in the past versions of the bug tracking app.If you haven't noticed, this post was very popular and people having free time jumped around like babies to grab their favourite bug hunting chapter so I call it a big success ever on day one now :-) Everything you suggested makes sense, but as we see that people are already on the bandwagon the question is if it's really worth the time when it already works ;)
