Please provide an example on how to list stats for contributors to PHP, including squashing bugs, writing docs, or whatever. For example, one can see number of CVS commits: http://bonsai.php.net/toplevel.cgi What does that mean? What's important? Submitting, commenting on, and closing bugs? Number of changed characters in CVS? Number of deleted/edited user notes? Number of mailing list posts? Also, how do raw stats judge quality vs quantity? If someone wants to flaunt their works, how about they create their own page of top X patches. Maybe even allow this to be done on some.php.net site? Just thinking outloud :) Fact remains, this is one sticky subject.A lot could be done to value the work of each and everyone that does something of value to the PHP project. Here we are talking mostly about fixing bugs. So, my suggestion is to start from there. A simple ranking of who has fixed more bugs for all time and another for the last week or month so newcoming bug fixers can still stand out. Eventuallly it would be better to exclude bugs closed as bogus or at least make them have less weight in the ranking so nobody gets tempted to not give proper care to all the bugs that are closed. -- Regards, Manuel Lemos
