As I work on installing PHP from CVS, I am trying to document the steps that I follow.
Here is a very rough initial document. Comments and instructions are a bit terse.
Instructions for getting the latest CVS version of PHP4 (for *nix)
# Go to (or create) the directory that you wish to store the PHP source files in.
# Connect to the PHP cvs repository
cvs -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.php.net:/repository login
(Logging in to cvsread@cvs.php.net) CVS password:[Enter password] phpfi # Grab the PHP 4 files and then logout cvs -z3 -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.php.net:/repository co php4 cvs -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.php.net:/repository logout # Change to the php4 directory that was created by the cvs checkout cd php4 # Connect to the Zend cvs repository cvs -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.zend.net:/repository login
(Logging in to cvsread@cvs.zend.net) CVS password:[Enter password] zend # Grab the Zend and TSRM directories and then logout cvs -z3 -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.zend.net:/repository co Zend TSRM cvs -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.zend.net:/repository logout # You may need to install autoconf, automake, bison, libtools, # gcc or other programs to be able to # complete the next steps. # Generally if you are missing something, then the script will complain. # Go to the Zend directory # Run ./buildconf to create the configure script ./buildconf # Run the newly created configure script ./configure # Return to the php4 directory cd .. # Run buildconf to create a configure script for php4 ./buildconf # Read the INSTALL document for further instructions.
