i thought about attaching a "psychological disclaimer" to that suggestion.
in a perfect world, the current == would be ~ and the exactly equal would be
==
here's another suggestion:
[=]
if ($x [=] $y) ...
it rolls nicely off the hand as well.
of course, i don't know if that falls into the ?= parser category Zeev
mentioned.
