well, here are some alternatives:
{=} [=] |=| /=/ .=. <=> (=) :=:
certainly one of these is easier on a euro keyboard?
i like the equals on the inside rather than the outside because it still
looks like an operator that way ...
these look like ascii glyphs rather than operators:
