Thanks for the reply. I also posted my problem to
the easysoft newsgroup and I still haven't gotten
a reply there. Unfortunately though, the problem
still exists.
I do have the DNS entry on the database server.
There is a program with ESOOB called demo that
connects to a database on an Easysoft server. I
changed the odbc.ini file to match what I'm using
in my php program. Then when I ran the demo
program it connected to my database and even
reported back the database name. So ESOOB seems
to be installed and working correctly. I just
can't seem to be able to use it with PHP.
Also I'm not real experienced at installing things
on *nix systems, and I've never installed php, but
I do know a little about it. Probably just enough
to be dangerous!
'--with-apache=../apache' is used to create a
static install instead of a dynamic install as far
as I know. This option was is not showing up in
phpinfo() so I'm assuming it wasn't used. What is
the difference between the dynamic install and the
static install? Should we include this option to
get Easysoft ODBC to work?
The only other option you mention that I don't
know if it would make a difference or not would
be --without-mysql. We also need mysql so it was
installed --with-mysql. Do you know if there are
any known problems configuring ESOOB and MYSQL
together into PHP? Thanks again for the reply.
This list sure beats the easysoft newsgroup!

I have been using PHP3 with ESOOB for about a
year. I just upgraded my install to PHP4 with
ESOOB and it's working great. This is the
configure command for PHP:
'./configure' '--with-apache=../apache'
'--enable-track-vars'
'--enable-magic-quotes' '--with-esoob'
'--without-mysql'
I installed the ESOOC client in the default path
on my Redhat server.
It sounds like you're missing the DNS on your
database server. Be sure to create a system DSN
with the same name as in the odbc.ini file.
This is my connect string:
$conn = odbc_connect($dsn, $user, $pass) or die
("Unable to connect to SQL
server");
