Thanks for clearing that up - I was confused as to where that (minisoft)
driver was coming from.
The answer is yes, it will.

Andrew

I talked to the person here that pretty much runs
the HP server. He is sort of confused by what you
are saying. The way we are accessing the
TurboImage database from NT is by using a Minisoft
program. Minisoft doesn't make a driver for
Linux, so we installed it on NT. Now we are
trying to find something that will use the
Minisoft DSN on the NT server and let Minisoft
talk to the TurboImage database on the HP. AFAIK
Minisoft is setup on the NT server and on the HP.
Will Openlink be able to piggyback onto the
Minisoft program?

Jason,
Our Multi-tier software can bridge the gap between
linux and hp, since it
has components that sit on both machines. The
only issue there is that we
do not provide direct support for TurboImage, so
you would need to piggyback
onto a turboimage driver. While it's doubtful
that they provide a native
driver for HP, if they do, then you can eliminate
the NT box by putting our
server-side components on HP instead.
HTH,
Andrew

Andrew,
Sorry for letting my ignorance show here, but I'm
not sure what you mean by having a TurboImage
driver on the HP, we could probably eliminate the
NT server. The HP server is the server, so
wouldn't we still need client software capable of
connecting to it? We couldn't find anything that
would let us connect to it through ODBC from
Linux. That is why we are trying the bridge. I
don't know much about the HP at all, but I can
talk to someone that knows more than me. If you
have an idea on how we can connect to it directly,
I'm all ears. If not, I think we will still try
the multi-tier thing from openlink. Thanks for
you help!

Jason,
I'm sorry my advice wasn't helpful for Easysoft,
but I'm afraid I don't generally support their
products :)
If you have a working DSN on an NT box, then you
are all set with regards to Openlink. Install
Openlink's Multi-tier drivers, with your linux box
as the client and the NT box as the server.
Also get our sdk and compile
apache/php --with-openlink. Follow the HOWTO link
I gave you earlier, as there are some tricky parts
with enviormnet variables.
After this is setup, your configuration would go
somthing like this:
1. create DSN on the NT box with native dirver,
called 'foo' for this example.
2. create DSN on the linux box, in the odbc.ini
file, with ServerType = ODBC, Hostname = nt box,
Database = foo
You can also create a DSN on the NT box using our
driver, with similar parameters, to test that the
piggyback works from NT to HP, and then try it
from linux --> nt ----> hp.
Now, all this is with the understanding that you
don't have a Turboimage driver on HP. If you do,
you can prob eliminate the NT box all together.
Regarding pricing, our Multi-Tier drivers download
with a free 2 ip address and 10 concurrent
connection license that does not limit
functionality and does not expire. One IP address
would be used up by the php machine, perhaps
another by an administrative utility from time to
time, so you are all set there. As long as you
stay within the 10 concurrent connections, please
use it for free with our compliments. Free
support is also available
at http://www.openlinksw.com/support/suppindx.htm
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Andrew
