Jason, I'm sorry my advice wasn't helpful for Easysoft, but I'm afraid I don't generally support their products :) If you have a working DSN on an NT box, then you are all set with regards to Openlink. Install Openlink's Multi-tier drivers, with your linux box as the client and the NT box as the server. Also get our sdk and compile apache/php --with-openlink. Follow the HOWTO link I gave you earlier, as there are some tricky parts with enviormnet variables. After this is setup, your configuration would go somthing like this: 1. create DSN on the NT box with native dirver, called 'foo' for this example. 2. create DSN on the linux box, in the odbc.ini file, with ServerType = ODBC, Hostname = nt box, Database = foo You can also create a DSN on the NT box using our driver, with similar parameters, to test that the piggyback works from NT to HP, and then try it from linux --> nt ----> hp. Now, all this is with the understanding that you don't have a Turboimage driver on HP. If you do, you can prob eliminate the NT box all together. Regarding pricing, our Multi-Tier drivers download with a free 2 ip address and 10 concurrent connection license that does not limit functionality and does not expire. One IP address would be used up by the php machine, perhaps another by an administrative utility from time to time, so you are all set there. As long as you stay within the 10 concurrent connections, please use it for free with our compliments. Free support is also available at http://www.openlinksw.com/support/suppindx.htm Hope this helps! Here is what we have: A turboImage database on an hp server. We couldn't find odbc drivers for linux that would connect to the HP, but we have some that will connect from NT. So we installed those drivers on an NT server that we have. Now we need a bridge that will connect to the NT server and pass through to the HP server. We're trying EasySoft and we are able to make a connection with their test program, but not with php. Nobody on the php list seems to know why and nobody from EasySoft has replied. I am definitely interested in more information about OpenLink. How much does it cost? Would we be able to get a trial version to try to setup and see if it works? We are trying to open up our hp server to the web, so our students can get live data. If you can help, I'll glady except it! Jason Stechschulte jpstech@nc.edu Jason, How about ODBCINSTINI and LD_LIBRARY_PATH variables? These should tell php where the driver manager is and where the necessary driver libraries are. Regarding TurboImage, no, we don't directly support it. If you have a native driver on the same box it sits on though, you could probably piggyback on that with our odbc_sv agent. Let me know if you'ld like more info or would like my help exploring it further. When I include that line, ODBCINI shows up as an environment variable in phpinfo and the path is correct. I've also rechecked the permissions on the odbc.ini file and it is readable by php. I wrote a script to open it and read a line and print it. I think we checked into openlink first, but we couldn't see where openlink supports connections to a TurboImage database running on an hp server. Do you know if this is supported or if there are any plans to support it? I also posted my problem to the easysoft newsgroup and I still haven't gotten a reply there. Unfortunately though, the problem still exists. I do have the DNS entry on the database server. There is a program with ESOOB called demo that connects to a database on an Easysoft server. I changed the odbc.ini file to match what I'm using in my php program. Then when I ran the demo program it connected to my database and even reported back the database name. So ESOOB seems to be installed and working correctly. I just can't seem to be able to use it with PHP. Also I'm not real experienced at installing things on *nix systems, and I've never installed php, but I do know a little about it. Probably just enough to be dangerous! '--with-apache=../apache' is used to create a static install instead of a dynamic install as far as I know. This option is not showing up in phpinfo so I'm assuming it wasn't used. What is the difference between the dynamic install and the static install? Should we include this option to get Easysoft ODBC to work? The only other option you mention that I don't know if it would make a difference or not would be --without-mysql. We also need mysql so it was installed --with-mysql. Do you know if there are any known problems configuring ESOOB and MYSQL together into PHP? Thanks again for the reply. This list sure beats the easysoft newsgroup!
