Cyrus and UW imap are the ones generally used for free projects.
I don't know what Rasmus plans to use. Considering the toolkit
the imap functions in PHP were written for, he'll probably choose
UW's server.
Independent from the server choice, having a web-based frontend
such as IMP would be kind of cool. Using secure http, this could
make a nice, secure add-on for the standard IMAP/POP3 service.
cucipop, the POP3 server Andi referred to, is a stand-alone
product. I'm currently not aware of other software by the same
author (Stephen van den Berg).
