Next step is to try to link a simple program which calls PDF_show_boxed(). If this fails it can have serveral reasons: 1. It can't find libpdf.so because it's not in <pdflib-path>/lib 2. It can't find libpdf.so because your ld.so.conf is missing <pdflib-path>/lib 3. Your are missing one of the graphics libraries (libtiff, libjpeg, ...)
