XML is a very difficult beast to get the hang off and also has many parts of
its w3 spec still in working draft (such as XML Linking, XML Schemas etc).
Over the next few years you will see greater take up of this new technology
but at the moment it is probably not worth it in my opinion, you would be
looking at learning somthing totally new, having to prepair a DTD (Document
Type Definition) etc to get its full power, unless you are working on a
large project and have the time to invest to get to grips with this then I
would say no.

XML run on the server is a far better option at the moment, you want to look
at technologies such as cocoon, tomcat and jakata, these are all avalible
via links on the main apache XML site, http://xml.apache.org,
Form my
experiance of cocoon, while it is a good piece of software it has some major
limits. (It can be quite strenous on the system).
