I think you're going to find different answers from everyone that you ask.
Given that, I use Linux and Netscape 4.7x under Windows inside of VMWare .
On my Pentium III 650 w/ 224 megs of RAM, it works really well.
You noted that you found Netscapee too strict; I actually prefer that to
ensure that I'm doing it "right". Pretty much everything that works under
Netscape works under IE. The converse isn't true.
My editor is jed, mainly because I come from a DOS-text editing environment
using The Semware Editor and jed has a native Wordstar compatible command
environment that I'm used to.
