At the risk of branding myself with hot iron, I use BBEdit 4.6 on Mac OS9 for code development,Well, you are not the only one, pass the brand over to me. I also use Mac OS9 with BBEdit, I have updated to version 6 though. You should take a look at the new version, they have improved the syntax coloring quite a bit and there is even syntax coloring specifically for php that is built in. Check out: http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit.html In addition to that there is a glossary for PHP available: http://www.barebones.com/support/bbedit/bbedit-glossaries.html I is a simple list of common functions that you can drag into a project. Yes, you can simply type many of these, that is if you remember what is available and exactly how it is spelled.
though there is one feature from Visual C++ that i'd love to have. in VC++ you can highlight a section of code and hit tab and it will indent the whole thing.command bracket ] At least that works for me in BBEdit 5 and 6 Another tool that is very useful is Vicomsoft FTP Client (leagues better than Fetch): http://www.vicomsoft.com/ftp_client/ftp.client.html The nicest thing about it is the completeness of the view of your files, it includes the date as well as time and the permissions set on files and folders. Also outstanding is the ability to select a file and then run the edit in BBEdit command. The file is downloaded to a temporary location on your hard drive and opened in BBEdit. Whenever you save Vicomsoft FTP sends it back to the server. FTP can be useful for more than transfering files, if you want a view into the file structure of your Linux server, keep this open as you work in Telnet to issue commands, it will help you to see what files you have and where they are located.
