Like I said, cUrl supports https and is accessible through php4.

You can create a string of POST variables and use cURL
(http://curl.haxx.se/)
to submit the data to the URL provided by authorize.net.
We're doing this on www.inww.com now, and it works like a charm. The only
thing to be careful of is that cURL echos cursor control codes to the
Apache error logfile(!)
