If the work is being done under an agreement then you would have to be careful about what that agreement says. If you include code to stop the finished product from working then the client would have an automatic right (from a legal point of view) to stop payment. In my experience, having a legal "leg to stand on" is based on having done the right thing and being able to prove it. As soon as you put yourself in the wrong you give the other side a way out. Of course, I'm not a lawyer and certainly don't claim to understand the laws of any place other than where I live. CYA, Dave
