<snip, snip, snip>
As this thread becomes a useful manual for freelancing
php developers, I´ll also give my 2eurocents .
There´s no need to encrypt, or otherwise destruct your code,
just leave off the comments and carriage returns.
I´ve problems reading sources from 2 weeks ago without my
documentation. Would you work yourself trough
30 to 100 or more php scripts, includes, classes without any comment
or structure? I don´t believe (this is something for "hackers").
My customers get the documentation, if they ordered any,
after they paid the last package of the bill. They get the sources
and anything else in a running version when they give their OK
to this final version, but "compiled" - without
any comments or cr/lf´s. That´s what they ordered, a running program
with the ordered/desired characteristics. They don´t order
an easy human readable source (BTW it´s readable, just not as comfortable
as we like it ;) )
For the german readers of the list, if they didn´t know already,
our laws have changed ! There must be a documentation of
the program and it´s behaviour BEFORE you sign the contract.
That´s a basic and necessary part of the contract !!
That makes our business more uncomfortable, As you have to put
a lot of work in a job before you get (or not) it.
Hope this gives another aspect, but I think the other "legal" hints
of this thread will be also helpful in business.
Maybe you should make friend with a local Attorney (they need webpages too)
This makes your life sometimes easier.
