( I can also understand this, when I buy something, I
would also like to have the product before I give the money).

Where do you get the product before paying for it? Certainly not at the
grocery. Not at the department store. Not Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Pet-Mart,
Shopco, Costco, or your local pub. If you order something online with a
credit card you have paid way before you get the product. Only through the
graciousness of some are there things like shareware and /or trial versions
(somewhat disabled). There are only a couple a places I can think of. You
fill up with gas and then walk in to pay the clerk. You get your hair cut
and then pay the barber.
Other than that, payment is expected before goods change hands. When are we,
as a profession, going to see the light? This same conversation comes up
again and again on multiple mailing lists, and the bottom-line solution
always deals with getting a terms agreed to contract signed before any work
begins. Do it or lose it.
