Okay, with that I won't argue. :)
But you have to develope the product before you can show the demo (ok,
splitting hair here)..
Well, let's cut this conversation here, since I think we share our
thoughts. I just didn't get you right at the first time. :)

There is a difference between K-Mart and you developing a web-site.
Situation 1:
You go to K-Mart. You want to buy The-Great-Machine. At K-Mart you get
to see how the product is since there is the actual product right before
your eyes. If you like it, you own it after you've paid it.
Situation 2:
The-Some Ltd. needs a web-site. They come to you, all you got is your
word how the product will be, they can't see or try it. You need to do
produce the product before they will pay for it, just like you in
K-Mart. [/snip]
I didn't say don't do a demo. Just don't give the customer anything
without a contract, it is exactly the same. I go to see the Great
Machine. I get to play with it, I just don't get to keep it if I don't
pay for it. The-Some Ltd. looks at my portfolio. They get to play with
the product. They just don't get to take it home without a contract. I
will do a mock-up if required by the bid process, but nothing
functioning.
Why do we always sell ourselves short?
