It's propably the same fault I had. Remove ALL autotools and libtool and
then reinstall them. And if that doesn't help, install the latest
versions of autoconf/automake/libtool. Those external macros used
have some stuff in them that the old autoconf can't handle -> weird error.

Thanks, I've tested it with 5.1.0-dev now too, still the same Issue. I've also added the --with-phpize switch, but still.
Thanks,

First of all, you'll need PHP 5.1.0-dev. Secondly, when you run buildconf, specify the location of phpize you just installed.
./buildconf --with-phpize=/home/mfischer/install/php5/bin/phpize

Sorry for the long delay, unfortunately, it still doesn't work for me.
I really start to suspect my system is broken but not in a traceable way for me; or on the other it's something obvious I'm missing.
I'm testong debian sarge, currently up2date. I've installed PHP from the PHP_5_0 branch (which is currently named 5.0.5-dev).
autoconf reports 2.13
libtool reports 1.4.3
flex reports 2.5.4
The installed gtk version is 2.6.4, there are no multiple installations left
php-gtk is from current HEAD (cvs updating everytime before I run a new test build)
I've one apache php5 installation on my system which is in non-standard /opt/php5 . I've taking it our of the path and made my own installation in ~/install/php5 and made sure no other php5 files are in the path.
I used the following commands:
PHP:
./buildconf && ./configure --prefix=/home/mfischer/install/php5 && make && make install
PHP-GTK:
./buildconf && ./configure && make && make install
The relevant last lines are:
Build complete.

This is disturbing. We may have to involve Jani here since he knows
best about these sorts of things. I can't imagine why this macro
would not be found, since it is a default autoconf macro.
Jani, any ideas? I believe Markus checked out php-gtk HEAD and tried
to run ./buildconf in it against the latest PHP 5.1.

I tried the fix written by Andrei

but it didn't work either.
My exakt versions are is 2.13 .
Is there anything else to watch out for?
