The problem with 'C' is that people don't offer patches here, they just add them to Gnope or whatever and then expect us to support the users. Andrei, in answer to your earlier queries, I turned down a modified libary because the source wasn't made publicly available/marked as modified/offered back to the originator, so there's never been a Windows version of GtkSourceView available anywhere except via Gnope. I have no idea what other extensions are offered there because it doesn't tell you that on the site. I also don't have any access to the Gnope installer source. Users coming onto the php-gtk-general list with questions about Windows installations are invariably advised to use Gnope, and when they have problems I can't advise them because I've no idea what it does. Does it make a PHP-GTK registry entry on the target system? - no idea, and I'm not about to install it to find out and risk messing up all the other PHP and PHP-GTK related installations on my box. Does it use the same paths as the PHP-GTK 2 binaries on the official site? Again, no idea... Elizabeth wrote earlier to say that the GtkSourceView library now has an official win32 port which is distributed as a binary, so we can have a win32 version in the distributed binary (and the appropriate files in the CVS tree) now without any qualms whatever, but we haven't had that until today. - Steph ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andrei Zmievski" <andrei@gravitonic.com> To: "Anant Narayanan" <anant@kix.in> Cc: <php-gtk-general@lists.php.net>; "PHP-GTK dev" <php-gtk-dev@lists.php.net>; "Steph Fox" <steph@zend.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 30, 2007 8:40 PM Subject: [PHP-GTK] Re: [PHP-GTK-DEV] Re: [PHP-GTK] Announcing PHP-GTK-EDGE

Also, it would be nice to know the policy that we're going to follow from now on. If someone has something new to put into PHP-GTK does he/she: a) Commit directly if he/she can? b) Post to mailing list with tarball so that it can be "discussed", which basically means "never"? c) Provide it to the general public by other means: gnope, edge, whatever?
I think b) is the option I'd prefer, even though historically you've had trouble with getting feedback. It's something that we have to work on and I promise to be more active in this area. Option c) is fine for cases where discussion on the list makes it clear that the extension/patch is not going to make it in to the main CVS tree. -Andrei -- PHP-GTK General Mailing List (http://gtk.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
