It is still not working locally, but now as it looks like, your mirror does not have an actual copy of mirrors.inc, and the search is not turned on. PHP.net has an actual copy, so you mirror will have one in a short time probably, and the search will work. > A search on the word "install" gives the following, alot > don't you think, almost 5 times more than php.net. You definitely should exclude "/print/" and "/printwn/", which makes the manuals only indexed only once, and not three times. The printed pages are excluded from the results anyway, so there is no point in indexing them. Some mirrors also exclude several languages, which are not really viewed on the mirror, and only include those, which are used. This makes searches faster and focused. We plan to add an advanced search page in the future, for which there is a setting HTSEARCH_EXCLUDE which should be the same as the exclude configuration you used to index the site. This will be parsed, and exluded languages won't be offered on mirror sites for search focus selection. This is for the future however, it is not used currently, but mirrors are expected to set it, so this feature will work instantly on all mirrors with local search as we add the advanced search code. > Could you ask him for the config otherwise? I think that php.net's htdig database is simply outdated. I don't have any information that it is updated regularly, but I guess, it is not updated. So the resultset is smaller because the index is old, and there were not too many languages then, or something like this. I can't do anything for this to change, as I am not part of the systems team. You can ask questions from them, and suggest a htdig database update by writing to systems@php.net ... Don't expect instant answer, you may need to write more then once, if you don't get a reply in some days. Please also include webmaster@php.net in the recipient list, so we also get informed, if the database is updated ;) > And why don't php.net uses the same config as the mirrors > anyway? Well, the instructions for mirrors are quite old, and the php.net site's setup probably changed from time to time, which the instructions never followed. > And for the search star images I had to create a new > directory htdig to put in two image files star.gif and > star_blank.gif. Well, there is a setting in the config file (image_directory or something like this), which sets this to /gifs and thus the htdig output should use the star images rsynced. See the settings in the provided instruction pack. It should work that way. > To give you an idea, the ht://Dig search database at our > place is now almost 1,5 GB and took up almost 4 hours to > create it from scratch at a very high cpu load of 80% on > a AMD Athlon XP 1700+ and 512 MB of DDR RAM which we have > in our server. These things (including the faq and the tutorial) are handled by the same URL handler, which enables our site to have the php.net/echo type of smart access. The tutorial and the FAQ is moved to the manual, so the automatic redirection selects the right manual page. If the printed pages work on your site, or the /echo trick works, then the FAQ and the tutorial should also work, without any added files. | <?php | | Header ("Location: manual/en/faq.php"); | | ?> You SHOULD NOT add these files, as the automatic redirection honors the site's default language, and shows the FAQ in the right language (and not in English on all mirror sites). There should not be any wired in redirections there. The idea is to have all such URL tricks at one place (now it is /error/index.php). So please delete those files, the site should work without them... > Am I supposed to do so or is there another nicer way? I > heared another mirror guy about this who had the same > "problem" as me. Maybe it's nice to add this info to the > how to set up a mirror page. Actually I think there is nothing to add here. The mirror page says, you should not bother with this, as it is automatically handled. Is this not clear on the mirrors page? Then it definitely should be modified to make this point clear. > And I saw you set our Default Language to English, is > this because I pointed the above pages to the English > version? Nope. It is a mistake. Actually the original nl2.php.net mirror was set to English, and I have not updated all the fields properly. I'll do it now and set it to "nl". Goba
