Well, as there is an obvious opposition to commiting my changes into the IT[X] package, I'd rather finish banging my head against the wall. I can understand the reasoning against my changes, though can't say that I agree with it.
I propose making my fork a separate package from IT, thus there will be no need to worry about BC too much and people wishing additional features will be able to migrate to the new package after careful testing with their existing applications.
I also promise to create unit tests so that it will be possible to actually test whether *both* packages work and whether there really is compatibility between them.
As for the package name --- I am not sure. Maybe HTML::Template::IT2, or HTML::Template::ITMod, as I called my original fork?
