Are you saying there should always be user-space implementations that
match the C version just in case somebody doesn't want to run the C
version? I don't really see the reasoning for this. If it is easy to
compile and install the C version, why duplicate the work?
Eventually we are going to have quite a few PEAR classes that are a
combination of C and PHP code. There are things that just should not be
written in a scripting language, and other things that are much more
appropriate in script space.
