I have no Sun Solaris machine to compile my own dso's on, in case my webhoster runs their webservers on Solaris. Besides, a lot of hosting providers don't offer any shell access at all, let alone give you the possibility of compiling software on it that will integrate into their webserver. There most be some way to gain some trust from webhosters, perhaps some secure *signed* binary format that can be dl()'ed, like the secure certificates java applets can use for additional privileges. The compiling and subsequent signing will be done by the PEAR/PHP dev team after inspecting the code, so it's origin is known and can be trusted, and the binary will not contain malicious 'code' (unless someone obfuscated some nasty stuff in it ;) ... -Arjan ------------------------------------------------ Arjan Wekking e-mail a.wekking@synantics.nl ------------------------------------------------ http://www.synantics.nl/ ------------------------------------------------ - Internet: - Applications - Design - Hosting - Connecting ------------------------------------------------ Synantics B.V. phone +31 (0)78 6 144 211Short: TheBut the functions should 'hidden' by the PEAR-classes and it should bypossibleto use important classes like DB without using special modules.Yes. Some of us cannot afford our own servers, and have to rely on our hosts installation of PHP, and the modules they choose to compile in. Some hosts will recompile PHP with a new extension if we ask nicely, but most won't. That's what dl() is for. You don't need your ISP to do anything just to load a C extension. An ISP could theoretically turn that feature off, but they could also turn off any other functionality that would cause a PEAR component to break.first implementation or improvements of a functionality in PHP, thenadditionalas c module.
