Well, if we have an experimental, why not a /commercial? I think that
cybercash should definitely be in there.
Just an idea...

I can see there being political issues when it concerns commercial products
but ultimately we have to bend a bit and already are. After all, PEAR's
database abstraction layer currently supports Oracle, Microsoft SQL server
and Sybase. Are we not supporting commercial products now in doing so? In my
mind Microsft and Oracle are more evil than Macromedia (but that is just my
own personal opinion :) ).
What I am proposing for such a framework mentioned before, is not to change
PEAR in any way, but to bring to the users of Macromedia's software an
abstraction layer so to speak between PEAR and Macromedia Ultradev (we would
just be using Macromedia's API to do so, and perhaps CVS to develop it). It
would only make sense to make these extensions known and even better,
available alongside the PEAR extensions if they exist. If other commercial
companies want to develop extensions for their product that takes advantage
of PEAR with their own API, then we might think seriously about it then.
As for creating extended Macromedia extensions for different PEAR packages,
maybe we ought to consider how such things might be included in the current
web scheme under development. Although to be honest, I cannot think of what
other commercial products would use such a thing at the moment. However,
such extensibility might be useful for added documentation, tutorials,
sample scripts using the different modules with each package etc.
I am as much a socialist as anyone else, and maybe integrating an Ultradev
extension scheme on the web is too much right now. However, I do think we
ought to think about creating an Ultradev extension that brings some of the
benefits of PEAR such as error reporting and the Database connectivity to
the Ultradev's graphical interface. I am more than interested in working on
such a beast.
