I think on-line configuration and automatic code generation is possible with HTML templates, too. I can even think of a one file solution where the file consists of a php part and an HTML part.
I bought and use a license of PhpLens which is a very good product. PhpLens needs minimal information to generate list/page views. You don't need to be a guru to guess that the developers of PhpLens are thinking about moving the configuration files to an SQL-server system. PhpLens would then become more-or-less a full SQL integrated system like Oracle Web Portal. In the tradition of PEAR, I would welcome an HTML-less solution. With a good object oriented design, configuration information can be fetched from/to a database server. This does not mean there is no need for templates in this case, both systems should coexist. OK, please consider this email like a-learning email. I need to explore PEAR more extensively and come back later. In any cases, I will not start anything before there is a consensus on the list. /Later, Best regards Jean-Michel POURE
