I can be wrong but ;). Alan asked if you have to rewrite this package
from scratch, will you follow the same design/implementation as now.
And he supposed that you cannot change anything now due to some obvious
BC reasons. Finally, if you like to change one thing or two, this
proposal should be a good opportunity to have a "better" package.
