I've been in the same situation myself. Since the original author
didn't strongly say he doesn't want to be associated "with such a
crappy package anymore" or something I changed the role to "helper",
so he is at least listed for that package. However, general I think
leaving a note in the README of the package or similar is okay/enough
in most cases. We don't want a list of maybe 10 people someday which
are all "former leads", do we?
