I guess it just shows that some of us have been in the academic world for a
while :-) I know for a fact that since this is latin-based, it occurs in
most western academic traditions (and is still very actively used, at least
in Germany and the US).
Of course, Cipri's suggestion of "retired" may be easier to understand for
many, but the term "emeritus" brings class with it...
And anyway, we're not planning to use it often, are we, guys? ;-)
