The XHTML validity doesn't interferes, we can uses templates and XHTML/CSS, or just XHTML/CSS or just templates. We can write templates with W3C standards, but generally, the template is often for help the web designer to make the page with his WYSIWYG tool. But a valid page should not include visual effects, you should write just some div. Example with a div zone of web links :

Links

 Site 1

 Site 2

 Site 3

After, the CSS make the render of this bloc. For a very good example, look the page http://www.csszengarden.com, try the others skins and see the source page.. So, when you write a page like this, you doesn't have to make a template page. The web designer must adjust only the css files, not the html page :) Regards, Guillaume
