Hi Folks: On Fri, May 21, 2004 at 09:19:30PM +0100, Davey wrote:No, Davey's "proposal" was open for comments in the beginning, and it's based on the RFC. He still can change it. I am against -1 votes. -1 votes would be votes that are thrown away (they would count toward the 7 votes you have, like always in PEAR). And they could generate hard feelings, because they might be based on personal grudges. You know, when you vote in a regular election, you can merely select the candidate you want to give a +1, -1's aren't possible (imagine a candidate in a national election losing with a negative vote... :-P). However, I do agree that there should be some safegard against someone who has a really bad track record (or has demonstrated that he lacks the skills). I'm not sure exactly how this should be handled. No, and no. Just vote for your top (upto) 7I'm sorry to be a pain in the ass here, but... I sincerely appreciate Davey taking the lead and getting the ball rolling for a QA Team vote. At the same time, we are about to cast votes in a system that was established by one person. (I'm talking about the vote your top 7 w/o -1 votes, not about PEPr.)
I have strong objections to the voting system proposed. I think -1 votes for a particular candidate need to be counted. I'd also like the system to be anonymous, but I'm not going to make a big deal about it.Yeah, I understand your feelings -- many people will vote the way the big guys vote... The RFC never said anything about anonymity, so it could go either way. It sure would be nice if the values of the votes would not be visible until voting is over. Maybe if some neutral party (if there is such a thing) could read the votes on PEPr and tally them... The votes would have to be hidden to everyone but that person, of course. Except maybe after the election is done. I don't know if someone from the Group would be interested in doing that. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult. Just would take 20 minutes or so to print out the comments and put a tally mark for each vote by the person's name. Then simply sum it up, sort it, and send it out. Probably less than 20 minutes, depending on the number of ballots cast ;-) Klaus
