I have the same feeling. RoR looks like hype (because it's new, it's
demonstrated with a short video and it's eye candy), and IMO there have been
features like this in PEAR for ages, though maybe not all tied together in a
package because that's not our philosophy in PEAR.
Eventually, a Phing script could create everything you need by examining your
database structure, creating DB_DO and FormBuilder objects and making well
organized directories for you to work with. Still, like in RoR, you would end up
with a little web application which is nowhere near what you really need in web
development in terms of complexity and flexibility. But that's just my opinion,
it certainly depends on the size of your projects.
