I doubt it will work with CGI - NTLM is connection-based, the whole
handshake (and the final request) needs to be within the same HTTP
connection so we need a persistent socket connection to the NTLM protected
server available over multiple requests to our PHP proxy. CGI would
shutdown the connection after every request so the backend server would
always restart the authentification process. As you know we're running it
as Apache module in production. Other SAPIs (maybe even FasTCGI) _might_
work, but there wasn't any effort to test this :-)
