The idea is to have something like pear.github.com so whoever chooses
to use github for a PHP project, can take advantage of a PEAR channel
without setting one up on their own.
The idea is not to replace anything PEAR itself offers, nor does it
mean that all packages on Github's future pear channel are a part of
the official PEAR repository and subject to PEAR's rules and
standards.
This is just an effort to provide a public channel to projects that
happen to be hosted on Github - nothing more, nothing less.
I think it's a great idea since evangelism is on our todo list anyway.
This would expose the concept of distributing PHP "scripts" (and
applications) through a PEAR-style channel to many people. As Helgi
put it, It's a chance to offer something to/for PHP projects hosted on
Github, which has been available to all Ruby projects for a while now.
