The bloat occurs when a developer (accidentally) commits code that
does not conform to the coding standards and then follows up that
first commit with a style or whitespace commit.
If there's a way we can help developers stick to our coding standard,
we should use it. I suggest providing modelines for both vi(m) and
emacs. There are a lot of other editors out there that will honor
those two standards of modelines, as well.

That's a totally unreasonable suggestion, and everyone knows it. It
doesn't even rate highly on the sarcasm scale. Please don't bloat my
mailbox with such unnecessary comments.
