Does this mean it is compiled in ?
The installer should work now --with-pear and --without-pear
not sure what you mean here... i cannot compile php here.
I have downloaded 4.2.1 from the main site, extracted it to c:\php. Then checked out CVS, copied php4/pear/scripts/pear.bat to my C:\WINNT directory (all the settings were correct anyway).
i then copied my cvs php4\pear to c:\php\pear
i have this as my include path
include_path = ".;c:\php\includes;c:\php\pear"
c:> pear install -r php4\pear\package-Archive_Tar.xml
c:> pear install -r php4\pear\package-Console_Getopt.xml
c:> pear install -r php4\pear\package-PEAR.xml
c:> pear install -s php4\pear\packages/XML_RPC-1.0.3.tar
worked without a problem... I assume this is the base distribution, dependencies etc...
so what happens now if I try to use a PEAR extension which has not been officially installed into the registry?? Will it still work ?
i just have to reboot this 'king thing... ill try some tests when im back on...
do i still need to use php_pear.dll
(only found one binary of this - didnt work). It all seems a bit
confusing...
You don't need this file, the installer and the whole PEAR is PHP code,
which should run out of the box.
The go-pear script just seems to download CVS, and then
'install' some apps.
I have pear.bat (is this the equiv of the pear program?) - can pear be
manually installed?
Manual theorical steps for having the installer work under Windows:
1) Download from CVS the entire php4/pear tree
2) copy the php4/pear/scripts/pear.bat file to your PATH and edit the
file to match your system.
3) run the following commands:
c:> cd php4\pear
c:> pear install -r php4\pear\package-Archive_Tar.xml
c:> pear install -r php4\pear\package-Console_Getopt.xml
c:> pear install -r php4\pear\package-PEAR.xml
c:> pear install -s php4\pear\packages/XML_RPC-1.0.3.tar
This should be enough. Note that we have recently done a lot of work on
it, so be sure to download the lastest version. I've just changed a
little pear.bat to see if it works better.
pear.bat crashes with memory access errors.
I'd recommend you to try the 4.2.1, we have seen those crashes too on
Windows. If they still appears please try to isolate the problem, fill
the properly entry in bugs.php.net and tell us about it to see if we can
make some workarround while the bug isn't fixed.
install-pear.php requires pear installed?
Nop. If you want to test it:
1) Download from CVS the entire php4/pear tree
2) Run:
c:> cd php4\pear
c:> php -C -f install-pear.php -- package-*.xml
c:> php -C -f install-pear.php -- packages\*.tar
You can imagine that I haven't tested any thing that I'm commenting so
expect some problem somewhere. There is not much more to say on what is
needed to install the installer under Windows. Now I guess is the turn
for Windows developers to make the installation easier. We are wide open
and really interested in having the Windows support. Of course, if
nothing of that works, just wait a little to the Web Interface Christian
is creating.
