Hi all, thank you for your great feedback on our request to adding SQL Server PHP extension to PECL submission. Based on your feedback, we will be leveraging our current infrastructure for source code, which is on codeplex. We have our documentation ready as per PECL guidelines. Let us know what the next steps are to move forward in this direction. Anybody else? We waited for all responses so that we can address the issues that were brought up. 1. Is the read-only a typo? No it's not a typo. We cannot take any contributions at this time. By virtue of the source code residing in PECL, we would love to get the additional visibility from the PHP community and the feedback that comes in through bug reports, comments, etc. If a critical bug were to be found (say the code does not compile due to some change), we will be responsive and prioritize it accordingly and work with you to resolve the situation. 2. The source code is C++. We believe the conclusion here is that while this is not typical it is not a major concern. It is our plan to provide the right source files to enable others to compile it. 3. Code-dump-on-release or not. This is a great question. We will start with the current code for our latest release. We are planning our next release; once we have our plans finalized we will be able to communicate our source release cadence. We have received numerous requests from the PHP community to put this extension into PECL and this request is a direct response to that feedback. In addition to the extension source code, we are ready to include tests and documentation to PECL and actively maintain the project. We really appreciate your consideration to our request. We've made progress over the last few years and hope to make more progress over time - one step at a time. We are looking forward to working with you on this next step. Please let me know if we can answer any other questions you may have. There is no such thing as read only repository in pecl or in php.net. We did that in the past for IBM, but it was a one person decision and we don't do it anymore. However it could be a mistake in this mail so let wait on your next reply :) Cheers, -- Pierre @pierrejoye | http://blog.thepimp.net | http://www.libgd.org
