I fully agree, but it isn't me you have to convince. It was previously thought that the Apache license was GPL-compatible so that is what PHP used. Then somehow it was determined that the advertising clause was bad so this clause was removed from the Apache license. My preference would obviously be to follow the lead of the Apache group.Unless I'm missing something, the APL is not considered GPL-compatible even today. http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/license-list.html I don't recall seeing the matter resolved just yet (even though Brian is trying to talk to them).
