But I think the point is this function has no business in the core language.
Now we can satisfy that. It IS still obscure, but thats why I won't use it
:) Those who want to be obscure can choose to be on their own dime. We
should not encourage it though, we'll end up like VBScript, a language of
rules and their exceptions.

Given the suggestion to just have people who already use gettext to define
function _($string) { return gettext($string); }
.. this argument doesn't hold water, since it'll still be in the code, and
still be as obscure. Those people would have to _choose_ not to use _(), and
they can already make that choice now.
