Ah yes, forgot to post this to the list.
PHP4 won't contain all the SGML docs. Instead, we use a new CVS
module where we collect the available documentation for PHP.
This has practical advantages - almost noone uses the SGML docs
which are distributed in the standard PHP package. Seperating
code and documentation saves ~1750KB of uncompressed data.
People who are interested in getting the documentation can simply
download another tar-ball which contains the SGML docs as usual.
This allows us to do documentation updates independent from main
PHP releases.
To checkout the new module you can simply use your existing CVS
account:
$ cvs -d :pserver:username@cvs.php.net:/repository \
checkout phpdoc
The phpdoc module should be used only for PHP4 documentation, so
that we can prepare all necessary things for the first PHP4
release (i.e. Zend information, new modules, other changes).
Changes in the PHP3 documentation (php3/doc) should also be
reflected in the new module (phpdoc), if the changes apply to
PHP4 as well.
