Yes but normally you would lookup time in the function list not in the whole site. > and maybe php.net can use the timezones. > sounds strange but might be a good idea. > > When it's afternoon in The Netherlands it's just morning in > the USA. where is the highest load? just re-direct the user > to a mirror with a lower load, not just the country > mirror. It's a good idea but again it should be faster to redirect to a local mirror than to a different country. As people said most countries have connections to the US only and not to a European backbone. So it might be slower to some people to redirect to some other country than to their own country regardless of the time. I agree with the second method of course to keep ch.php.net but to improve it as follows: We have 2 cases where the site search is being executed (if you find more we should probably list them here): 1. Top of the page in the box when you select whole site 2. When you search in the function list, you don't find something interesting and you click on the link to search for the whole site. Ideas on those two: 1. Instead of really executing the query there is an intermediate page that checks the country. a. If there is a mirror in that country with local mirror support then the good old search page is included (not redirected) So if I'm looking in www.php.net for "sybase install" the script will find that I'm in Greece (easy), will find that gr2.php.net has local search support (easy?) and will include http://gr2.php.net/search.php?show=wholesite&pattern=sybase+install The results will return within gr2.php.net so the user will continue the surfing in the mirror. b. If there isn't a mirror in that country with local mirror support then a local mirror is selected but since it doesn't offer local search it will get results from ch.php.net and return links to the local mirror. 2. The same thing applies here. But instead create the link that searches the whole site to a local mirror. If the mirror has local search support it will reply faster. If not it will ask ch.php.net (the old way) and return links to itself. This way there is never a search executed within php.net and whenever somebody searches something he will continue surfing in the local mirror. Of course there should be a way to be able to select to stay in the current mirror even if you want to browse a different country and probably this should be dealt by a parameter on where the link came from. If it came from www.php.net redirect the user otherwise don't lookup for a different mirror. Those are my thoughts. Comments are always welcome as we are brainstorming anyway.... Spyros
