We have 2 cases where the site search is being executed (if you find more we should probably list them here): 1. Top of the page in the box when you select whole site 2. When you search in the function list, you don't find something interesting and you click on the link to search for the whole site.
There are more cases of course :) Like if you say /nosuchpage, the search will come up automatically. But it is not important how many cases we have, as all our handled by /search.php
Ideas on those two: 1. Instead of really executing the query there is an intermediate page that checks the country. a. If there is a mirror in that country with local mirror support then the good old search page is included (not redirected) So if I'm looking in www.php.net for "sybase install" the script will find that I'm in Greece (easy), will find that gr2.php.net has local search support (easy?) and will include http://gr2.php.net/search.php?show=wholesite&pattern=sybase+install The results will return within gr2.php.net so the user will continue the surfing in the mirror.
No include! We can redirect to that mirror instead of ch.php.net yes. A good idea :)
b. If there isn't a mirror in that country with local mirror support then a local mirror is selected but since it doesn't offer local search it will get results from ch.php.net and return links to the local mirror.
Great.
2. The same thing applies here. But instead create the link that searches the whole site to a local mirror. If the mirror has local search support it will reply faster. If not it will ask ch.php.net (the old way) and return links to itself.
Where do we have such a link? I don't remember ;)
Of course there should be a way to be able to select to stay in the current mirror even if you want to browse a different country and probably this should be dealt by a parameter on where the link came from. If it came from www.php.net redirect the user otherwise don't lookup for a different mirror.
Well, the load distribution thing is only intended for www.php.net, and will stay there. I don't think that we are not going to redirect from mirrors to other mirrors. Only in case they have a high load. But only php.net has a function to query the load currently, I don't know if it's going to be a standard function or not. Goba
