<shameless advertisement> This entire dilemma can be avoided in the future through the use of PEAR_PackageFileManager, which will make sure that every file is included in a package that should be. Note the intensity of feeling regarding this missing file. This is now totally avoidable. Even phpDocumentor can generate a new release (with our 1481 files in the current package) in about 2-3 minutes, so if you don't have 5 minutes, but do have 2, you're set :) Greg Wez Furlong wrote:
Beta means Beta means don't use it for anything you need to rely on. It may take 5 minutes to fix, but it was obviously 5 minutes that pierre did not have. May I remind you that *there is no warranty* on anything related to PHP, that pierre is not employed to work on this stuff, and that he has *absolutely no obligation* to do anything about it, *even if it was a stable release*. Now, I'm sure he does care about the package, but it is *beta* after all. Perhaps if this situation arises again, a helpful pear admin could fix and make an interim release on such a broken package, with the package developers consent. Lets move on with our lives now... --Wez.
Release fast, release often. It takes 5 minutes to get Date working again, and in the mindtime more users can download and test the package, reporting bugs. In the state is it now, nobody can use it and nobody can report bugs. It has no sense in having a package in this state.
